Benefits of membership
One of the main benefits of club membership is the opportunity to improve your photography by having your photos appraised by an independent expert in club competitions.
It's worth emphasising that competitions aren't just about scoring points: many members enter their photos simply for the benefit of independent appraisal by the competition judge. Judges are provided to us by the Chilterns Association of Camera Clubs (CACC) and are trained to appraise amateur photos and provide constructive feedback.
Members are also entitled to attend special events such as studio evenings, which may be held away from our usual location. A small charge may be payable for some of these events, for example if we need to rent a venue for the evening.
Club competitions
Members are entitled to enter their photographs in club competitions, both internal and external. We hold regular monthly competitions, as well as annual competitions held near the end of the season. Trophies are awarded for scores accumulated over the monthly competitions, and for the best photos and portfolios submitted at the annual competitions. A full set of rules for club competitions, together with guidelines for submitting prints and digital files, can be found on the Competition rules page.
External competitions
As an affiliated club within the CACC, we participate in the annual Rose Bowl series of competitions for projected digital images. The standard of photography in these competitions is very high, and they are a valuable chance to obtain inspiration, and learn about photographic technique, in a variety of subjects and styles. Please visit the CACC web site for more information about the Rose Bowl competitions.
Members' evenings
We hold members' evenings every year. The format of these is variable, but the aim is to give members the chance to share their experience with others and discuss problems and issues that arise, in a friendly and non-competitive environment. Occasionally, one or more members will give an impromptu talk on a photographic subject e.g. Photoshop. Members' evenings are a valuable opportunity to share your experience, and learn from others.
